Other than being a part of her debate team in school, she is a volunteer at a local debate academy, where she works as a mentor to help younger kids in middle school become better debaters. She is also a part of her school’s Diamond Consulting team, which works with real-life businesses. Her love from teaching and learning comes from her participation in the geography bee when she was younger, where she learned from several mentors and won many awards. Last summer, she was a tutor for Read Write Discover, a volunteer-run program that partners with libraries to bring literacy education into local communities.

Outside of school, Dhiya loves to dance and spend time with her family and friends. She is a huge fan of the Golden State Warriors, with NBA superstar Stephen Curry being one of her biggest role models and idols. She is also a huge fan of the MCU, and loves to rewatch her favorite Marvel movies in her free time. She enjoys trying new things to eat, drinking boba, and meeting new people. Above all, she loves to spend time with her family friends and discover new places. Her dream would be to one day study abroad in South Africa or Europe.

"If there was one issue I could solve in this world, it will be climate change. Climate change affects millions of people globally, and is the cause for several other world issues such as food inequality and lack of access to water. Spreading awareness and educating others about climate change is the key, especially since we are running out of time to help save our planet." - Dhiya Kannan

“I look forward to working with you and your children to create a learning experience that is both engaging and effective!”
